Privacy policy
Side B Sampler for iPhone. Effective 7 November 2026.
Short version: Side B doesn't collect any data about you. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no server run by us. What you make stays on your phone until you share it yourself.
What stays on your phone
- Your projects, pads, beats, loop layers and settings, in the app's own storage (also visible to you in the Files app).
- Recordings from the microphone, and audio you sample from what your phone plays. Side B records only when you start it.
- Songs you play along with, from Files, your Music library, AirDrop, the share sheet or your own music server. They're decoded and analysed (tempo, bar 1) on the phone.
- Your exports (WAV, M4A, video), until you choose to share them through the iOS share sheet.
Connections the app makes
- Your own music server. If you add a Navidrome, Subsonic-compatible or Jellyfin server, Side B connects only to the address you enter, to browse and download your music. Your password is kept in the iOS Keychain on your device (for Jellyfin, only the access token it gives back). We never receive any of it.
- Freesound. If you search for sounds, your search words go to freesound.org, run by the Music Technology Group of Universitat Pompeu Fabra, to return results and sound previews. No information about you is sent with them. Freesound's own privacy policy applies to its service.
- Purchases. The one-time unlock is sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we receive no personal or payment information.
Side B makes no other network connections.
Permissions
- Microphone: to record a sound onto a pad or a loop layer, when you tap record.
- Media library: to play songs you own from your Music library.
- Local network: to reach a music server on your home network.
You can turn any of these off in iOS Settings; the rest of the app keeps working.
Children
Side B collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes everything it stored. You can also delete single projects and songs in the app, or in the Files app under Side B.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
